April 16, 7:45 a.m.
A 15-year-old man was assaulted by three male offenders on the 5000 block of South Drexel Avenue. The victim was struck in the head, causing him to fall to the ground. The offenders then retrieved cash from the victim’s wallet. All three offenders were described as black males, 15 years old, 5’8”, and 185 pounds.
April 20, 10:25 p.m.
A 50-year-old man on the 6800 block of South Cranden Avenue was approached by a group of 17-year-old males who attempted to rob him. The victim attempted to defend himself by pushing one of the offenders into the other, but was shot in the waist by another of the group. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is in good condition.
April 20, 10:35 p.m.
38-year-old Renauld Darling was fatally injured in a drive-by shooting that took place near his residence on the 6300 block of South Ellis Avenue. Darling and three others had just been dropped off at his apartment when a passenger of a blue Dodge Charger started firing at them. Darling was pronounced dead later that night. The other three victims were shot, but their injuries do not appear life threatening.
Police announced April 23 that they had arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting. Michael Minnifield, 22, Kerry Williams, 24, and Angelo Straight, 23, have been charged with one count of murder and three counts of aggravated battery.
April 20, 11:00 p.m.
A male victim was walking down the street on the 5200 block of South Kenwood when he was allegedly approached by two male, black offenders, both 17–20 years of age dressed in black sweatshirts and dark-colored pants. One of the offenders displayed a handgun and demanded the victim surrender his belongings. The victim surrendered his cash and the offenders fled southbound on foot.
