While UCPD claimed the student was charged because he refused to show officers his identification or leave the library for unruly behavior, witnesses deny that police asked the student for ID or that the student was causing a disturbance.
February 23, 9:37 p.m. – DUI, possession of cannabis, unlawful use of a weapon
UCPD officers stopped a van on 47th Street between Greenwood and Ellis Avenues, and after smelling alcohol, began searching the vehicle. They found a loaded 9mm pistol and a small amount of marijuana.

A man standing on the corner of 55th Street and Cornell Avenue was approached by an unknown man, who punched him in the face. The offender was described as black, with a medium build.

A woman walking on the 5600 block of Kimbark Avenue was approached by an unknown man who stopped her by brandishing a gun. The assailant grabbed the woman’s purse and ran when a neighbor yelled at him. The suspect fled in a vehicle driven by a second person. The offender was described as black, wearing a black skull cap and a black sweater.

Man who harassed undergrad arrested for home invasion
An Uptown man was arrested Friday for breaking into a U of C undergraduate’s home last October and attempting to remove the sleeping woman’s underwear, according to police.

Two men approached two University students entering an apartment building on South Kenwood Avenue and demanded their possessions at gunpoint. The two victims surrendered their cell phones, credit cards, and wallets. Both suspects were described as black, 18-20 years old, and about 5 foot 7 inches. One of the suspects wore a black hooded sweatshirt; the other wore a red hooded sweatshirt.
