Four Maroons make softball All-Region

Softball may not be in the national tournament, but they will be represented on the All-Region team.

Four Maroons were named to the All-Great Lakes squad by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Friday, led by Academic All-District pick third-year pitcher Hannah Roberts. Roberts, Chicago’s all-time shutouts leader, is eligible for selection to her third straight All-America team.

First-year left fielder Dominique Marshall, who led the team in homers and extra-base hits, made the second team. Third-years RBI leader and defensive maven first baseman Rachel Cohen and batting champ third baseman Kayti Fuhr were selected to the third team.

The team went 25-10 on the year, but a 6-9 stretch to end the year knocked them out of contention for a postseason berth. All but one starting position player, fourth-year second baseman Julie Wiorkowski, will return next spring, as will all three members of the pitching staff.
