Crime Report

On Thursday February 25 at 6:50 p.m., a strong-arm robbery occurred on the 5500 block of South Harper Avenue. A female senior citizen was walking alone on the street when two men approached her from behind. She was knocked to the ground, and her purse was taken. The victim sustained a broken wrist and injuries to her eye and forehead. Both offenders fled southbound on Harper Avenue. The police were notified and responded to the scene.

One University officer was able to locate a witness that supplied a clothing description, which was announced over radio to patrolling cars. Another University officer observed an individual standing at a bus stop at 55th Street and University Avenue that matched the clothing description. The individual was subsequently taken into custody, and an investigation ultimately led officers to the location of the purse that had been taken from the victim. The individual, age 14, was charged with the robbery and is set to appear in juvenile court.
