Crime Report: November 10, 2006

November 7, 12:30 a.m.—An aggravated robbery occurred on the 5100 block of South Cornell Avenue. A man approached a 52-year-old woman, demanded money, and placed his right hand in his pocket, implying that he was carrying a weapon. The victim said she was not carrying any money, blew a whistle, and screamed loudly. The offender fled northbound on foot and was not apprehended. The offender is described as a black man, 5-foot-6, 120 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

November 7, 6:55 p.m.—A 21-year-old man walking southbound on the 5400 block of South Greenwood Avenue was approached by a man asking for a light for his cigarette. The offender then displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s wallet. The offender, who fled on foot, is described as a black man, 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, in his 20s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

November 8, 3 p.m.—A man approached an office door at 5807 South Woodlawn Avenue, pushed a 30-year-old woman into the office, and closed the door behind himself. The offender ordered the victim to remain in a kneeling position while he proceeded to remove money from the office safe.

The offender left the office, and several witnesses followed him outside the building to where a getaway car driven by a second man was parked. One witness steered her car in front of the getaway car to block it, and witnesses detained the two offenders as U of C Police Department officials were called.

The two offenders were identified as Eddie Jones, 52, of the 1400 block of East 73rd Street, and Elijah Jones, 53, of the 6400 block of South Walcott Avenue. Police recovered the stolen money. The two offenders are due in court November 15.
