Fallows on the American Idea

The Atlantic's fantastic James Fallows has a great essay in this month's issue about America from the perspective of having just lived a year and a half in China. He compares it with living in England after college (he doesn't gloat, but he was on a Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford) and to the rise and collapse of Japan. He beautifully articulates a vision of the U.S., what the U.S. should aim to be, and throws in some truly insightful observations on the future geopolitical structure of the world.Convocation speaker anyone?
