In a 1984 Presidential debate, Ronald Reagan famously said, "I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent's youth and inexperience."In a similar move, Mike Huckabee held a press conference today to say that he would not be attacking Mitt Romney. Unbelievably, he shows reporters a fully produced ad which berates Mitt Romney for, among other things, "no executions" and providing a "$50 co-pay [dramatic pause] for abortion."This (non-)ad will almost definitely get more play--at least nationally--now that Huckabee has pulled it. Either Huckabee's campaign didn't know this, in which case they're quite dumb, or they did know it, in which case they're quite dishonest. The difference between Huckabee's press conference and Reagan's one-liner is that Reagan wasn't really pretending not to make an issue of age, while Huckabee really is pretending--or he's not pretending, and, again, he's an idiot--not to attack Mitt Romney.PS On a completely unrelated note, I wanted to respond to Tim's previous post with a post titled "Counterpoint: Cappuccino conservative" but I couldn't think of anything to say (except maybe something about how I don't like Peanut M&Ms or Red Bull, which is stupid). So I decided not to.PPS Happy New Year!
