Crime Report: 5.29.09

This week’s Hyde Park crime.

May 26, 12:34 p.m. A 27-year-old man on the 5200 block of South Dorchester Avenue was approached by three unknown men, one of whom asked him for a cigarette. After ignoring the request, the victim was struck in the face by the offender. The other two men assisted in restraining the victim while the first offender retrieved a phone from the victim’s pocket. Police responded and three juveniles walking in the Kimbark Park area were positively identified by the victim as his attackers. All three are 15 to 16 years old. May 26, 4:30 p.m.A 12-year-old boy raising money for his baseball team on the 5500 block of South Woodlawn Avenue was approached by an unknown man who grabbed the boy’s jar full of money and fled to a getaway car. Police were able to obtain the description and license plate number of the vehicle and officers in the Second District, west of Hyde Park, managed to track down the vehicle and retrieve the money. No descriptions are available at this time.
