University of Chicago Press Director Garret Kiely announced the launch of Chicago Scholarship Online, the University of Chicago Press division of the scholarly database University Press Scholarship Online (UPSO), on Thursday.
The launch marks the beginning of a new partnership between the University of Chicago Press and Oxford University Press, the founder of UPSO. With the latest additions from Chicago, the database is now home to more than 11,000 books from 10 different university presses.
As of now, the University of Chicago Press has uploaded nearly 300 titles in biology, economics and finance, literature, sociology, and education to the database, which is available to UPSO subscribers. It plans to add over 400 more titles in March.
“[We’re excited] about opening up our books to a worldwide digital market,” Kiely said. “We like to think of this as two of the leading university presses in the world coming together in a venture that we hope other presses are going to join as well.”
