Hyde Park Gets its First Brewpub

The owner, Ron Jeffries, is “an outspoken advocate of the slower, finer life.”

This Tuesday, Jolly Pumpkin, Hyde Park’s first brewpub, opened at 5251 South Harper Court.

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales was started in the summer of 2004. The Hyde Park pub’s signature artisan ales will be made in Jolly Pumpkin’s brewery in Dexter, Michigan. In addition to over 30 taps, the brewery also offers salads, pizzas, burgers, and sandwiches.

The owner of the business, Ron Jeffries, is “an outspoken advocate of the slower, finer life,” according to Jolly Pumpkin’s website. “Maintaining traditional small-scale production, keeping beer a beverage of both outstanding complexity and simplicity, this would be our laudable goal,” Jeffries said in a letter posted on the company’s website.
