The University recently announced new details for the upcoming Convocation weekend.

The new Class Day will be a student-led ceremony held on the main quadrangle on Friday, June 9, from 2–4 p.m. Class Day will celebrate the college’s graduates and will feature student speakers selected by the graduating class. There will also be a guest speaker, an alumni speaker, and a presentation of College awards. Open to the graduating students’ family and friends as well as to the rest of the university, the ceremony will replace the Baccalaureate ceremony formerly held in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, which limited attendance due to the Chapel’s size.

The senior class reception, which has occurred previous years, will be held from 7:30–10:30 p.m. at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Convocation will start at 9:15 a.m. on June 10, with graduate students lining up for the procession on the Main Quad and undergraduate students passing through Cobb Gate. They will eventually join together in the Quad for Convocation.

The university-wide Convocation event on Saturday, June 10, will continue in the same format in which it has been carried out in previous years. A current faculty member will deliver the Convocation address, and President Robert Zimmer will verbally bestow the degrees. He will be conferring the degrees based on academic program and degree type.

Later in the afternoon, undergraduate students will receive their physical diplomas in smaller ceremonies depending on their residence hall communities, which are meant to be more personal and less time-consuming. There will be eight of these smaller ceremonies, all happening simultaneously.
