On November 1, an attempted aggravated sexual assault occurred at 11:40 p.m. at 5200 South Woodlawn. A woman was approached while in the basement of a building by a man who asked her some questions. He subsequently exposed himself and made some demands of her and displayed a knife. The woman attempted to get past him but the offender grabbed her and forced her back. The sound of footsteps by other apartment dwellers nearby frightened off the offender. He is described as a black man, around 40 years old, 5’8″, 160 lbs., medium build and dark complexion, sporting a black baseball cap with red stripes as well as a red and black jacket and green cotton pants.

A carjacking occurred on November 1 on 57th and Cottage Grove at 7:25 p.m. A male motorist stopped at a light and was approached by a lone man. The man pointed an object which appeared to be a pipe or gun at the motorist. He then demanded that the driver get out of the car, entered the car and drove off. The victim saw the man driving off westbound. The offender is described as a black man in his 30s, 5’10”, 140 lbs., slim build, dark complexion, wearing a green hat lined with red felt, a red sleeveless shirt, and green overalls. He is also described as having a gaunt face.

An armed robbery occurred on November 3 at 1:22 a.m. at 1400 East 55th Street when a man was followed off a bus by another man. The offender caught up to the victim and attempted to speak to him, but the victim managed to get away. The offender caught up to the victim once more and grabbed him. He implied that he had a handgun at which point the victim took out his wallet and the offender took $2.00. Officers who were in the area saw suspicious activity taking place and took action when the man called out that he was being robbed. The offender was taken into custody but refused to cooperate with authorities and was not carrying any identifying material. At the time of the report, charges are pending and the offender is listed as “John Doe.”

Edwardo’s Pizzeria at 1321 East 57th Street was robbed on November 4 at 5:40 p.m. when a man entered the building, walked over to the counter, and pulled out an object that was partially concealed by a plastic bag and a menu. The man demanded cash—which the cashier gave him—and fled on foot. Witnesses observed him getting into a car and gave the police a vehicle description. The offender and his driver were apprehended at 60th and Cottage Grove and brought into custody. As of the time of this report, armed robbery charges are pending.
