Swimming races through Wesleyan
Men's and women's swimming traveled to Bloomington, IL to face Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday. While the men's team dominated the Titans 138-70, the women's team came away with a 118-118 tie.
Fourth-year Deb Ayoub had two first-place finishes on the day, winning the 200-yd. IM in 2:24.62 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:26.81.The women's 400 medley relay comprised of third-year Rachel Neumayer, first-year Amber Meriwether, fourth-year Emily Testa, and Ayoub took first with a time of 4:27.34.
The men's team had two competitors with double wins. First-year Jason Azares finished first in the 200 IM in 2:05.58. Fourth-year Northe Saunders had the fastest time in both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. The men's 400 medley relay of first-year Jason Eiben, second-year Pat Seastedt, Azares, and Saunders took first place with a time of 3:42.29.
Chicago's divers swept the top three spots in women's 1 meter diving event. Second-year Elizabeth Finn took first, first-year Ashley Bourne placed second, and third-year Kim Velsey took third. Finn also took first in the 3 meter dive.
Both teams will host talented opponents in the second-annual Maroon Invitational this Saturday at the Myers-McLoraine pool. Nationally-ranked visiting squads include Wheaton, Wash U, and UW-Oshkosh.
