Crime Report: November 1, 2005

A man was robbed while walking through Nichols Park on the 1300 block of East 53rd Street at 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, October 27. He was approached by two men. The first put him in a headlock while the second went through his pants pockets. The pair took the victim’s cell phone and wallet, which contained between $40 and $50, and his glasses. The offenders then fled south, then west on 54th Street. The first offender is described as being about 21 years old, 6 foot 3, 180 pounds, with a dark complexion. He was wearing a black jacket and dark pants. The second offender was also wearing dark clothing.

An armed robbery occurred on South Cornell Avenue between 54th and 55th streets at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 29. Two men attacked the victim from behind, then one of them trapped him in a headlock. The other demanded the victim’s valuables and went through his pants pockets, taking about $8 in cash. The first offender was armed with a handgun and struck the victim on the head with the gun. The victim was knocked to the ground, and the two offenders kicked him before fleeing on foot. The victim managed to get up and went to a nearby business establishment to notify the police. He was taken to the hospital, and his condition is guarded. The first offender was described as a black man, about 28 years of age, 6 feet tall, 200 pounds, with a light complexion. He was wearing a black leather jacket. The second offender was a black man standing about 6 foot 1.

An armed robbery occurred at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 on the 5800 block of South Woodlawn Avenue. A man was walking south on Woodlawn Avenue and passed the offender, who was sitting on a lawn wall. The offender attacked the victim from behind, pointing a small blue steel handgun at him. When the offender demanded the victim’s money, the latter turned over his wallet. The victim then asked for part of his property back, and the offender struck him in the face before fleeing north on Woodlawn. The offender is described as a black man between 20 and 25 years old, 5 foot 7, wearing a black shirt, black baseball cap, and black pants. The victim suffered a facial injury but refused medical attention.

A woman was robbed at 9:27 p.m. on October 29 while walking through the parking lot on the 5400 block of South Dorchester Avenue. The offender approached her from the front, threatening her with a handgun. He grabbed her handbag, which contained about $75 in cash, and then struck the victim on the right side of her face with his gun. The offender fled east on Dorchester Avenue, before turning north. The offender is described as a black man, between 20 and 30 years old, 6 foot 2, and wearing a dark blue shirt and pants. The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for facial swelling. She is in stable condition.
