Two Maroons football players were named UAA Athletes of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Fourth-year defensive tackle Rob Tamillow was honored on defense, and third-year quarterback Matt Rinklin was selected on offense.
Tamillow broke the Maroons’ modern era career record for tackles-for-loss in Saturday’s 42–3 win at Bethany, recording six to raise his lifetime total to 48. He forced the Bison back 18 yards, including 12 on three sacks. In addition, Tamillow recorded nine tackles (five solo) and forced a fumble on the afternoon, earning him a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week for the third time in his collegiate career. His team-leading 16 tackles-for-loss rank him seventh in Division III in that category.
On the other side of the ball, Rinklin burned the Bethany secondary for four touchdowns, including a 32-yarder to complete the first drive of the game and a 51-yard completion in the fourth quarter. In doing so, he tied the school single-game passing TD record held by Josh Dunn (A.B. ’03). He completed 12 of 21 passes for 233 yards and no interceptions in helping to lead the squad to its third straight win.
It was the first career honor for Rinklin, a transfer student in his first season with Chicago. Tamillow had been selected on one previous occassion. Both will be in action again Saturday at home against Case.
