Crime Report: 10.17.06

Oct. 15, 6:30 a.m.—A strong-arm robbery occurred on the 5600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue. A 65-year-old woman on the street was approached from behind by a man and struck on her right shoulder, according to police reports. The offender knocked her to the ground and struck her repeatedly before taking her purse, which contained a cell phone, ID, credit cards, and $50. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics and transferred to U of C Hospitals.

The victim described the offender as a black man between 18 and 20 years of age, 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds with brown eyes, short black hair, and a medium complexion wearing a red and black puffy jacket, dark blue jeans, and white gym shoes. He was last seen running northbound on South Cottage Grove Avenue. Police were unable to locate him.
