When the law and sentencing go wrong

Two legal cases being debated at the Volokh Conspiracy right now involve: (1) a women who let a man sexually abuse her daughter, at times participating, over 200 times beginning at age 9 in exchange for $20 payments; and (2) a 17-year-old who had consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old. Under the legal system of the United States of America, both individuals have been sentenced to 10 years in prison. This is simply not justice. It boggles the mind that laws prohibiting various types of sex between consenting adults are still on the books; likewise for consenting teenagers of similar ages. A junior and a freshman in high school should have no legal regulations placed upon them for consensual sex. There's a lower limit, of course, but this is not it.
