An attempted strong-arm robbery occurred in the 1000 block of East 60th Street, on February 10, at 3:07 p.m. A man was walking down the street and was approached from behind by five men. One of the offenders placed his hand over the victim’s mouth and forced him to the ground. The rest of them kicked and hit the victim while he was restrained on the ground. A passerby began yelling at the offenders as they went through the victim’s pockets. The attackers fled the scene without taking anything from the victim.
An armed robbery occurred on February 11 at 5:15 p.m. at a cellular phone store located at 1465 East 51st Street. Two men reportedly entered the store, displayed handguns, and ordered the store clerk to a rear office, where the offenders also encountered a second victim. The offenders removed money from a safe and also took money from the cash register at the front of the store. The victims were ordered to stay in the rear room as the offenders fled the store. One offender is described as a black man, 19 to 23 years old, 5-foot-11, wearing all black clothes and white shoes; the other is described as a black man, 30 to 35 years old, 6-foot and 250 lbs., wearing a black hat and a black coat.
An armed robbery occurred on the 5500 block of South Dorchester Avenue at 9:50 p.m. on February 11. A man and woman were walking down the street when a man approached them, displayed a handgun, and demanded their money. The couple complied, handing over an undetermined amount of money. The offender then fled westbound from that location.
An armed robbery occurred on the 5400 block of South Greenwood Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on February 14. A woman was walking alone on the street when two men approached her from behind, displayed handguns, and demanded money. One of them seized the victim’s handbag, which contained a laptop computer and an iPod. The men ran southbound on Greenwood Avenue and into the Harold Washington Park playground.
