Regenstein card office receives a new look

The Regenstein Library, in conjunction with NSIT, began renovations of the card office located on the first floor on Monday.

The project, to be completed in early August, will “remodel and improve the card office with help from Facility Services,” said James Vaughan, assistant director for Access and Facilities at the library.

The renovation is expected to provide a more comfortable reception area fully equipped by NSIT with computers that will provide “one-stop shopping for library privileges and NSIT needs,” Vaughan said.

The card office—which offers CNetID aid, passport photos, CTA cards, and other services for students—began its current combination of services in 2004.

When other services were added on top of assisting students with library privileges in the Regenstein office, “there were more people in the office than it could handle,” Vaughan said. The card office now employs four staff members and a supervisor.

Every year, campus buildings have the opportunity to request funds for physical improvements. Earlier this year, the Regenstein Library requested an allotment for the improvement of the card office.

“The University and the library want it to be a place that is both inviting and spacious,” Vaughan said.

Facility Services has been working with Mark Cheng of MDC Architects, who has also aided in the design of the C-Shop (now Einstein Bagels) and the NSIT computing cluster in Crerar Library.

Until the renovations are complete, all services will be located in the circulation area at the front of the Regenstein.
