Andrew Sullivan and Jonathan Zasloff are right on. Israelis recognized that Labor had the right ideas about leaving Gaza and the West Bank, but that it couldn’t pull it off. For that, they needed a Likudnik: enter Sharon and Kadima. Many Americans now trust a progressive approach to Iraq but not a Democratic execution of that policy. I’ve actually always believed that I ended up supporting conservative foreign policies because of progressive ideas, and therefore wanted a competent centrist. Either way: Enter McCain. He’s probably got my vote in ’08.
