Bad news first: The big box ordinance passed. It was not nearly as close as the Tribune made it out to be. It passed 35-14. The ordinance requires stores of with revenue over $1 billion (I’m not sure if this is in Chicago, national, or international) or with stores of at least 90,000 square feet, “to pay at least $10 an hour in wages plus another $3 in fringe benefits by July 2010. The state’s minimum wage is $6.50 an hour.”This is bad news for everyone in Chicago. And now, the good news: Chicago became one of the three US finalists for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
