Crime Report: January 13, 2009

A man was attacked by two male offenders on the 5300 block of South University Avenue.

Friday, January 9, 6 p.m.

A man was attacked by two male offenders on the 5300 block of South University Avenue. After a struggle, the assailants went through the man’s pockets and ran away. UCPD found two men who fit the victim’s statement, both of whom were later identified and charged with attempted robbery.

Saturday, January 10, 4 p.m.

After reports that shots had been fired near East 61st Street and South Drexel Avenue, Chicago and University police came upon a group of men walking along East 62nd street, who immediately fled. An officer chased one individual, whom the officer saw throw an object into the snow. Officers recovered the object, a .380 semi-automatic machine gun, and the individual was charged with unlawful use of a weapon. There were no injuries.
