Scav ends in a tie: Breckinridge House’s team, “Breckcest at Tiffin's,” tied with Snell-Hitchcock Hall’s team, “International Albequerque Balloon Fiesta,” after a weekend of frantic scavenging in the University’s annual scavenger hunt.

• The eccentric list of items sought by this year’s scavengers included instructions like “Get a basketball player to perform a baptism,” and creating “deep egg” – a “hard-boiled, intact “egg” with alternating layers of white and yolk.”
• “This is the highest we've ever placed (as far as I'm aware), so I'm absolutely thrilled,” Breck captain Tara Vogel told The Maroon. She emphasized that the houses have always had a friendly rivalry – “for instance, last year when we had to rent a car for the road trip component of scav, they donated a few hundred dollars to our team so we could pay for it because they like having us to compete with.”

The University will conduct a “comprehensive audit” of graduate students’ compensation, Provost Daniel Diermeier announced in an e-mail sent to graduate students last week.

• Citing the recently released Report by the Committee on Graduate Education, Diermeier acknowledged that graduate students’ pay has frequently been “late or incorrect.”

In a rare public appearance, Dean of Students Michelle Rasmussen visited an Inter-House Council meeting last week and discussed developments including the new two-year housing requirement, student health facilities, and Woodlawn Residential Commons, the new megadorm under construction north of 61st street, between Woodlawn and University avenues.

• On the megadorm, Rasmussen said: “This is part of a multiyear project that demonstrates the University’s commitment to a particular type of housing model. I recognize not everyone is onboard with it, but it is the one that we are moving forward with and committed to ensuring it is a model for other institutions.”

Nearly fifty years after she attended the University as a chemistry grad student in 1971, the University has awarded Cheryl Dembe a doctorate degree. Dembe, whose studies were cut short by the sudden death of her mentor, will attend the University’s convocation ceremony this June, The Mercury News reported.

The Urban Education Institute will become part of the School of Social Service Administration starting this summer.

• Graduate Students United (GSU) raised concerns about the change, citing it as one example of “unilateral changes” made without adequately consulting students.
