A student in the College was shot on the Green Line yesterday evening.

An email sent to the University community this morning said the student was hit “by what appears to be a stray bullet” while on board a Chicago Transit Authority train near East 51st Street and South Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported the student was shot in the neck around 6 p.m.

The student was brought to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. He is receiving treatment there.

The Chicago Police Department is investigating the shooting. No suspects were in custody as of last night.
