University Police officers arrested two men caught with a stolen car on October 29 at 11:20 a.m. An officer saw a suspicious car parked at 744 East 62nd Street. After confirming that the car had been taken in a carjacking, the officer set up surveillance around the car. A man approached and entered the car. Shortly thereafter, he and another man who was in the car were taken into custody. Police charged a 16-year-old from the 2100 block of West 54th Street with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. His companion, Demetrias Pouncy, 17, who also lives on the 2100 block of West 54th Street, was charged with criminal trespass to a motor vehicle. The carjacking of the 1998 Lincoln Navigator is still under investigation by the city police department.
A 15-year-old girl was shot with a pellet gun while walking along the 5100 block of South Drexel Avenue on October 29 at 3:15 p.m. After exiting a CTA bus, the girl was walking northbound when a car with two men in it pulled up to the curb. The passenger pointed a pellet gun at her and fired three to four shots, one of which hit the left side of her face. The girl’s skin was not damaged or broken by the pellet, but she was treated at the University hospital and subsequently released. She described the offenders as black men ages 18 and 19. They were driving a four-door maroon-colored Chevrolet Caprice.
A man walking alone on the 4900 block of South Ellis Avenue was robbed on November 1 at 6:35 p.m. He said that a man walked up from behind, pushed something hard into the middle of his back, and demanded money. The offender then removed the man’s wallet from his trouser pocket, took out the money, and threw the wallet on the ground. He then fled northbound on Ellis Avenue. The offender was described as a black man in his 20s, five feet, ten inches tall, 165 pounds, wearing a black 76ers jacket, black pants, and a black skull cap.
A man walking alone on the 1100 block of East 56th Street was approached by two male offenders on November 1 at 8:36 p.m. One of the offenders displayed a handgun and demanded money. The man surrendered his money, and the offenders fled on foot. The first offender was described as a black man, 16 to 18 years old, five feet, six inches tall, 160 pounds, wearing a gray knit hat and a dark puffy three-quarter-length coat. The second offender was described as a black man, 16 to 17 years old, five feet, six inches tall, 160 pounds, wearing a black jacket.
Two women and a man were robbed on the 5500 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue on November 2 at 11:42 p.m. They were waiting at the bus stop on 55th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue when two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, approached them and demanded money. All three surrendered money, and the offenders fled south on Cottage Grove Avenue and then east on 56th Street. The first offender was described as a black man, 18 to 20 years old, five feet, eight inches tall, 200 pounds, wearing a dark jacket and a blue baseball cap. The second offender was described as a black man, 18 to 20 years old, five feet, 11 inches tall, 170 pounds, wearing a dark jacket and a cap.
