Students and community members will rally to Get Out the Vote on the Bartlett Quad on Oct 26 at 5 p.m. “We hope the rally will serve to mobilize students and members of the South Side community in a cooperative effort to ensure maximum voter turnout on Election Day,” said Kristin Greer Love, one of the event’s organizers.
A coalition of progressive student groups will provide rally-goers with opportunities to volunteer in swing states during the final week leading up to Election Day. “We urge students to travel to swing states with the hope that their efforts will allow all of us to celebrate George W. Bush’s going-away—back to Texas—party on Tuesday, November 2,” she said.
The rally will feature several student, faculty, and staff speakers from the University, as well as South Side community leaders. Alderwoman Toni Preckwinkle will deliver the keynote address at 6 p.m. Speakers will address failures of the Bush Administration’s policies in labor, the environment, human rights, health care, and education.
