Hello puzzlers!

Hope your summer went well, and welcome to the new school year — we’ve got big things planned! For starters, we’re going to try to stick to Mini Mondays and Midi Wednesdays (one 5×5 puzzle and one larger medium-size puzzle a week, in addition to our biweekly full-size puzzles). Hope you enjoy this new series — we’ve certainly had fun putting these puzzles together!

We also want to announce our upcoming second annual crossword tournament, taking place from 10am to noon on Saturday, October 14, on the third floor of Ida Noyes. Everyone is welcome to attend — sign up here and spread the word!

Pravan Chakravarthy, Head Crossword Editor

Pravan Chakravarthy is a fourth-year in the College studying physics and linguistics. He is the head crossword editor, and formerly a deputy podcast editor, for The Maroon. Some notable contributions he has made in these roles include co-running the UChicago Crossword Puzzle Tournament (Autumn 2022-2024, planned Spring 2025), hosting the Maroon Weekly’s 100th episode (March 2023), and writing over 20 puzzles for The Maroon, including the puzzle for the Maroon-Daily Northwestern joint issue (June 2023). He started constructing crosswords in 2020, and has published work in the Los Angeles Times, the Universal Crossword, and the American Values Crossword Club. Off the grid (ha), he enjoys biking, making music, and reading.
