Alex Clifford- Rookie of the Year, All-UAA First Team
Netting six goals in his freshman campaign, first-year Alex Clifford stepped up to lead the Maroons’ offense. Four of his goals came against UAA opponents, and two of those were scored as Chicago hosted an 18th-ranked Emory squad to open league play. Both shots put Chicago one-up on the Eagles in a match that the Maroons eventually lost 3–2 in double overtime.
Brooke Bontz- All-UAA First Team
Scoring twice in the final 15 minutes in the Wash U game, the second-year lifted the Maroons to a 2–1 victory that clinched the team’s NCAA bid. Her dominating performance over the league-champion Bears earned Bontz a UAA Athlete of the Week nod. The Fort Collins, CO native finished 2007 as Chicago’s leading goal-scorer with seven goals to her name.
Claire Gill- All-UAA First Team
With four of her five season goals notched against league competition, second-year Claire Gill garnered a spot among the best of the UAA. In Gill’s four game scoring streak, the first three came in league play. She shares the spot for the squad’s second-highest goal-scorer with two other Maroons.
Ryan McCarl- All-UAA First Team
Headed for the NCAA championship cross-country meet this weekend, the fourth-year runner, who placed seventh at UAAs, posted a school-record time for an eight-kilometer course last weekend in the Midwest Regional meet at UW–Oshkosh.
Women’s Soccer – All-UAA Coaching Staff of the Year
Leading the Maroons to the second round of NCAAs and a 12–4–4 mark overall with a 4–1–2 record in the UAA, head coach Amy Reifert and assistant coach Bannon Stroud guided their squad through injuries to key players to take home the league’s Coaching Staff of the Year award. This is the fifth time that Reifert has received the recognition in her 17 years at Chicago, during which she has led her team to a 213–81–24 record.
All- UAA Second Team
Five athletes spanning every women’s fall sport closed the season with All-UAA Second Team honors. On the soccer pitch, fourth-year defender Amanda Catalano and third-year midfielder Olivia Ndyabagye earned selection.
For volleyball, second-year outside hitter Diandra Bucciarelli and fourth-year middle hitter Koryn Kendall received recognition. Kendall topped the career charts in two categories while settling in as the runner-up in another two, averaging 3.17 kills and 0.68 blocks to go along with a .389 attack percentage.
Crossing the finish line in 13th place at the UAA championships, fourth-year Hannah Moots grabbed the honors for women’s cross country.
UAA Honorable Mentions
Five Maroons from men’s and women’s soccer garnered honorable mentions in the All-UAA team selections. The veteran pair of fourth-year goalkeeper Amanda Sutter and classmate forward Christine Farmer got the nod for women’s soccer. On the men’s side, defenders fourth-year Jon Cartwright and second-year John Hughes each received the honor while first-year forward Ryan Fitzgerald also earned the tribute.
