A couple of pretty lame researchers from the Urban Institute think so. Their logic makes sense. The popularity of iPods makes it relatively easy for robbers to get a pretty big pay day. The problem is that their evidence is about as lame as it gets and they think that iPods have actually been a significant contributer to crime (something next to impossible to verify when you think about all the things that might encourage and discourage crime).Their data is just basic correlation: iPods have become very popular and robberies have increased lately. It’s one thing for a think tank to actually pay people for this type of research. But, for the Boston Globe to write up a whole piece on it is just insane.Update: Yahoo news has picked this up now and it is the fourth link on Yahoo.com. Ridiculous.
