There probably won’t be a whole lot of controversy over this pick.
Fourth-year Jessica Winter was recognized as the UAA Athlete of the Week for women’s track and field, the league announced Wednesday. She was the only Maroon selected.
She certainly earned the honor, crossing the line in 4:56.95 to earn second place in the mile run at the Wisconsin–Whitewater Warhawk Invitational. The time was the third fastest of the season in Division III and qualified her provisionally for NCAAs. While she missed the automatic qualifying standard by 1.46 seconds, her performance will almost certainly earn her a spot on the startling line at Nationals.
It was her third UAA certificate of the year, and her fourth career selection for indoor track. Winter has now been named Athlete of the Week 13 times in total.
