There’s something special going on in the jumping pits at Henry Crown.
Second-year jumper Appie Hirve was named UAA Athlete of the Week for women’s track and field, conference officials announced Tuesday. She became the fifth member of the team to be so recognized this season, along with fourth-year distance runner Jessica Winter and her distance medley relay squad teammates, third-year distance runners Jackie Kropp, Nellie Movtchan, and Al Robertson.
Hirve leapedher way to an 11.30-meter mark in the triple jump at the Maroon Invitational February 24, good for second place in the event and meeting the NCAA’s provisional qualifying standard.
It was the first league honor of the season for Hirve, who has now garnered three career Athlete of the Week certificates.
