Crime Report 10-26-04

An attempted strong-arm robbery occurred on October 22 at 10:50 p.m. on the 5600 block of South Kenwood Avenue. A man, 29, reported that he was walking on Kenwood Avenue when he encountered four or five people. The group, which included two or three women, had grown to about 12 when one of the people in it approached the man and punched him in the chest. The man tried to flee and pulled out his cell phone to call for help. When the group of attackers saw this, they fled on foot without taking his valuables. The man lost his shoe. The attackers varied in age from 12 to 16 years old.

A 15-year-old female student at Kenwood High School was physically assaulted on Friday October 22 at 3:50 p.m. while walking home on the 4800 block of South Lake Park Avenue. A group of seven people attacked her, hitting her on the head and leaving scratches on her face. She refused medical attention. The victim said the attackers, who included several women, were not from Kenwood High School.

A strong-arm robbery occurred at 2:24 a.m. on Friday, October 22 along the 1600 block of East 55th Street, under the metro overpass. A man, 19, reported that he was walking west on 55th Street when he encountered two people walking east. They ran past him and circled back behind him, pushing him and asking what he had. He gave them his wallet. One of the offenders took his backpack. Both offenders ran east on 55th Street. The victim said he heard car doors closing in the distance. Police recovered his backpack and some of its contents near 5400 South Shore Drive. The offenders took his cell phone, $20 and credit cards. The offenders were described as black men between the ages of 18 and 20 wearing dark hoodies.
