Officers from the Chicago Police Department (CPD) caused a stir earlier today in Hutchinson Commons when a student was arrested.
According to CPD spokesperson Anne Dwyer, the arrest at 1:39 p.m. came after a phone complaint from an unidentified student alleging that third-year Jon Cotchen punched him in the arm. Hector Alfaro, another CPD spokesperson, said the student declined medical treatment.
Cotchen was taken to the 21st district police headquarters, charged with simple battery, and fingerprinted. A court date has been set for June 14 Alfaro said. Neither spokesperson was able to confirm if Cotchen had been released. However, both said that in misdemeanor cases such as this, a signature from the arrestee is usually enough to act as bond.
