Crime Report

An aggravated battery occurred Friday, April 16 on 5135 South Hyde Park at 6 p.m. Two individuals got into a verbal argument that eventually grew into a physical conflict over one of the park swings. According to witnesses, one man pulled what appeared to be a knife from the inside of his coat, slashed it at the victim several times, and ran away. The witnesses called emergency services, which took the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The victim suffered two severe cuts to the chest and two cuts to the abdomen. University of Chicago Police eventually caught the assailant. He stands charged with battery.

A burglary occurred Sunday, April 18, on 800 East 53rd Street between 2 p.m and 10 p.m. The owner of the home returned to find the front door pried open and several electronic devices, including a computer and a camcorder, missing. The burglar remains at large.
