Baseball crushes MSOE

By Sean Amhed

The baseball team turned in its best effort of the season in a home doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, adding great pitching and defense to an already prolific offense. With a strong wind blowing out to center field, the Maroons blasted four home runs to beat the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 23-1, 17-1.

Fourth-year second baseman Ben McCown led the offensive charge against the Engineers (2-20), homering in both games and reaching base all nine times he came to the plate. He now leads the team in triples, homers, RBI, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage.

Third-year Frank Brown and fourth-year Jim Raptis added homeruns on the day as well.

If not for the hitting, the defensive effort would have stolen the day. Both starting pitchers for the Maroons, third-year Dan Harrington and second-year Dan Yeksigian, threw complete games. Yeksigian allowed 13 groundballs in effectively controlling MSOE.

The Maroons are now 12-6 on the year, and 3-0 since returning from Florida. Their next game is away against Robert Morris College (12-4) on Wednesday.
