Bar Louie finally turns on taps

Bar Louie Hyde Park finally received its liquor license July 3, almost two months after it opened last May.

The Hyde Park edition of the Bar Louie chain, located in the Flamingo

building at 5500 South Shore Drive, has been beleaguered by delays

since it started. Noise complaints by Flamingo residents and zoning

complications dealing with entrances and dining areas delayed the

opening from January until May.

But the Bar Louie that opened in Hyde Park was not like the 17 other

Bar Louie’s run by parent company Restaurant Development Group. Unlike its siblings, the Hyde Park branch had no liquor license, mostly due to the efforts of the Promontory and Montgomery assisted living centers that are located nearby and feared the increased noise.

Despite those efforts the license was approved, and drinks began pouring on Thursday night, just in time for July 4th celebrations.

According to a Bar Louie employee, a Grand Opening will occur “in a couple of weeks.”
