Two juvenile suspects, 13 and 14 years old, were detained by University Police for a robbery that occurred at 60th Street and Stony Island Avenue, at 10:11 pm on July 21st. The two youths forced a man off his bicycle and fled. They were found at 6100 South Ellis Avenue and identified by the victim. University police turned the suspects over to a youth officer.
A burglary occurred at the Ratner Athletics Center construction site on the 900 block of East 55th Street at 12:20 a.m. on July 22nd. City and University police came upon two men moving an electrical generator from the site into a pickup truck. One, 38 years old, a resident of the 2000 block of East 78th Street, has been charged with felony burglary. The second, a resident of the 2000 block of East 78th Street, has been charged with a misdemeanor offense of criminal trespassing.
The construction site of the addition to the Childrens’ Hospital on the corner of 57th Street and Drexel Avenue was the scene of a burglary on July 23rd at 5:14 a.m. A University police officer approached a man who was holding a white bucket. The man dropped the bucket and began to walk towards a pickup truck.
The officer found power tools in the bucket, and arrested the offender. Inspection of the site revealed a toolbox that had been broken into, and an investigation found that the pickup truck had been reported stolen on July 22nd. The man has been charged with a felony.
