With the help of two student web designers, Student Government plans to launch a new version of UChicago Marketplace (marketplace.uchicago.edu) featuring improved functionality and a fresh look.
Currently in the testing stages, “Marketplace 2.0” is expected to offer advanced searching options and the ability to “subscribe” to a search, allowing users to receive email notifications when a new item is posted that meets the specifications of their search. Users, who must log in with a UChicago email address, will also be able to flag appealing listings by clicking the star located to the left each listing. The new site is slated to be launched around fifth week of this quarter.
Currently, Marketplace is managed on a volunteer basis by Devon Ryan (A.B. 02), who has worked with Marketplace since 2001. Asked who will be managing the new version, SG Vice President for Administration Forrest Scofield said that initial maintenance will be handled by its designers, third-years Paul Kaplan and Sean Clemmer. SG has not yet decided who will maintain the site in the long term, according to Scofield.
