Former Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley is undergoing tests at Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s intensive care unit after falling ill on a business trip on Friday.

Daley, 71, a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Harris School of Public Policy, was attending a conference in Scottsdale, Arizona when he began to feel sick and disoriented, according to the Chicago Tribune. Upon returning to Chicago on Friday afternoon, he was immediately taken to the hospital.

He will remain at Northwestern Memorial until the middle of the week to undergo further testing so that doctors can determine the exact cause of his illness.

Chicago’s longest-serving mayor, Daley stepped down in 2011 after 22 years at the helm. He was then appointed to a five-year fellowship at Harris. As part of his fellowship, he established a program with the city of Gary, Indiana, in which Harris students and faculty are working to help revitalize the city.
