Professor Laurie Zoloth will step down as dean of the Divinity School effective June 1 and take on a role as Senior Adviser to the Provost for Programs on Social Ethics, according to an e-mail received by Divinity School students.
Zoloth was appointed as dean last summer to succeed Richard Rosengarten, and had previously taught at Northwestern. Her research focuses on bioethics and Jewish studies.
In recent months, Zoloth and other Divinity School administrators came under fire for attempting to charge the coffee shop Grounds of Being a high rent. That dispute came to an end when Zoloth and the coffee shop agreed to a reduced rent.
According to the e-mail, Zoloth will “work with faculty and students across the University to explore, and help develop programs that address, the ethical issues our global society faces” in her new role.
An interim dean is expected to be appointed soon.
