The walls inside Tia Gilles’ dorm room are decorated with posters and prints that she has collected over the years and at the time of our conversation, she is donning a t-shirt designed by her friend.
She frequently returned to the joy of recreating everyday moments through her art. She looks to both the magical and mundane elements of daily life to inspire her whimsical sketches and polished digital pieces. Her personality mimics this same duality: when we first met, she was wearing a tulle skirt over bright pants while simultaneously lounging on her bed facetiming her sister back in “the middle of nowhere Michigan”.
