Good morning. It’s second week.

Armed robbers have been targeting people in Chicago wearing Canada Goose jackets. Of the six reported robberies this week, three happened in Hyde Park, according to Chicago police. A UCPD incident report for South Harper Avenue between 51st Street and 52nd Street on Wednesday at 12:45 a.m. reads: “Two unknown suspects, armed with handguns, followed a victim into a private apartment building off campus and demanded his jacket.”

Admissions received around 15,000 early applications for the Class of 2023 marking a 10 percent increase from last year, Dean James Nondorf told the Post.

The head coach of the men’s soccer team, Mike Babst, is leaving UChicago to take a Division I job at Davidson College. Babst transformed the team into a top DIII program that reached the NCAA semifinals the last two years. “We are committed to sustaining this level of excellence and we will soon launch a national search for an outstanding leader,” athletic director Erin McDermott said in a statement.

Mathematics professor Gregory Lawler won the Wolf Prize, the second consecutive year members of the University community won the award. Lawler was recognized for his work in expanding the field of probability.

President Donald Trump announced that he would nominate Wes Hendrix (A.B. ’00) for a federal judgeship for the United States District Court, Northern District of Texas. Hendrix is an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.

Professor emeritus Richard Epstein filed an amicus brief to a federal court arguing that the plan to build the Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park needs more scrutiny to determine whether it would be an improper transfer of public land, the Cook County Record reports.
