Close friends of the late Max Solomon Lewis, in conjunction with Promontory Investment Research, and the Lambda chapter of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity have organized a five-kilometer memorial run in his memory on October 17.
Race day registration will be open from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and will be followed by a number of speakers, including three of Lewis’s close friends. The run will begin at the Midway ice rink at 1 p.m. and take runners on a lap of the Midway Plaisance bounded on the east by South Dorchester Avenue and on the west by South Cottage Grove Avenue. There will be food and a live band performance upon completion of the race.
Lewis’s close friends and AEPi brothers, in conjunction with Campus and Student Life, began planning the 5K this past summer.
“Max and I ran together nearly every day over the past year,” close friend and AEPi brother Zach Cogan told The Maroon. “It's something I definitely miss about him, but in general I was like, ‘All right, the best way to honor Max would be through a 5K.’”
All proceeds from the run, including those from an online GoFundMe fundraiser started in Lewis’s memory in July, will go toward a variety of charitable causes, including Hillel, Chabad, gun violence prevention organizations, and the Rivkin Center, which Lewis’s family founded 25 years ago in honor of his grandmother who passed away from cancer.
Pre-registration for the race closes on Saturday, October 16, at 5 p.m., and a rain date will be scheduled if necessary.
