Crime Report

On October 17 at 10 a.m. there was a burglary on the 5700 block of South Harper Avenue. A man was seen entering a garage when a neighbor recognized that he did not live there. The neighbor called the University police and gave a detailed description. Although the man fled before the police arrived, the description was given to other officers, who were able to catch the offender, who was carrying a duffel bag with tools and a coffee pot that had been taken from the garage. The witness positively identified the offender. He has been charged with burglary.

An attempted robbery occurred on October 20 at 5:55 p.m. on the 5600 block of Kimbark Avenue. A male victim was walking alone as he passed by three men, one of whom reached out and grabbed the victim, putting him in a headlock and throwing him to the ground. The three men went through the victim’s pockets. They took out his wallet but, upon discovering that it contained nothing of value, fled without taking anything. The offenders were black and all wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.
