At the end of a hard season, there were a few bright spots for volleyball.
Fourth-year right side hitter Erica Pettke and second-year middle hitter Koryn Kendall were named to the All-UAA team as honorable mention picks, the league announced Thursday.
It was the second appearance on the squad for Pettke, a co-captain for the Maroons. She earned her way on by leading the team in service aces and being the number two player in kills and digs on the year. She will graduate holding spots in the top 10 in the Chicago record books in kills (second), digs (third), aces (fifth), total blocks (fifth), block assists (sixth) and block solos (ninth).
For Kendall, this achievement was a fine cap to a breakout season, in which she recorded a program record .390 hitting percentage. She also led the team in kills, block solos, block assists, and total blocks, recording figures among the top ten single season totals in Chicago history in the latter three categories.
Coaches hope Kendall’s quality play will carry over into next fall, when the team will hope to improve on its 12–23 overall record and its seventh-place finish at the UAA tournament.
