The American Red Cross of the University of Chicago (ARCUC), a branch of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, held its quarterly blood drive this Tuesday and Wednesday at Ida Noyes Hall.
Surrounded by proudly earned donation stickers and snack-size bags of goldfish crackers, second-year in the College Alice Wang, ARCUC’s committee coordinator for the blood drive, chatted with recent donors and fellow committee members.
“For the time of the quarter and it being the winter, we’ve had a good turnout,” Wang said, adding that she would expect better participation in the spring and fall drives.
The American Red Cross communicates directly with ARCUC and provides everything necessary for the drive—from iodine and gauze to orange juice and pretzels. ARCUC’s sole tasks involve generating publicity for the drive and enlisting volunteers.
