The University of Chicago women’s tennis team, represented by sophomore Ade Omodele-Lucien and freshman Michele Parad, competed last weekend in the season’s first scheduled tournament, the 2004 Intercollegiate Tennis Association regional at DePauw University in Indiana.
Omodele-Lucien defeated Manchester College’s Liz Weybright by a score of 6-4, 6-4. She later struggled against the second seed, losing to Denison College’s Amelia Carce 2-6, 3-6.
Parad fell 1-6, 4-6 to Kristen Frick of Manchester College in opening play. After defeating Rose-Hulman’s Krista Gonnerman, 6-3, 6-0, she lost to Wittenberg University’s Emma Robinov 6-3, 3-6, 8-10 in a tight match.
In doubles play, Omodele-Lucien and Parad defeated their first opponent. Then, in their next match, they won the first set 6-4 against the fourth-seeded Alex Nelson and Connie Shim of DePauw, but they lost the next two sets 0-6, 1-6.
The next women’s tennis match is scheduled for Saturday, October 2 at home against Illinois Wesleyan.
