Dean of Humanities Danielle Allen will discuss “Homeland Security: On Democracy & Knowledge” Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the Brent House. It is located at 5540 South Woodlawn Avenue.
According to an announcement on the Brent House Website, the talk will focus on the age-old question philosophers have grappled with: whether or not citizens are equipped to make informed political decisions. “Plato and Aristotle debated whether democratic citizens could know enough, and know in the right ways, to make wise decisions for their polities. Recent public events, including the issue of WMD in Iraq, raise this question again,” reads the brief.
The talk includes free dinner.
