Everyone on ESPN is talking about the NL MVP race being between Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols but how does this debate not include Alfonso Soriano.Soriano is on pace to have the first ever 50-40 season. He could even end up going 50-50 if he gets a couple of quick stolen bases at the end of the season. That has never been done. But more importantly it shows a set of skills that neither Howard nor Pujols has shown this season. On top of that, Pujols and Howard are pretty mediocre defenders. Soriano isn’t the next Willie Mays but he leads the league in outfield assists. I’m not saying Soriano is the only worthy candidate for NL MVP, but he deserves to be mentioned in the debate.
