A scholarly perspective on the news

Saskia Sassen, professor in the department of sociology, Mae Ngai, assistant professor in the department of history, and Susan Gzesh, director of the Human Rights Program, spoke on Thursday at the first part of the two-part conference "From Immigration and Labor to Human Rights: Issues and Applications in the United States." The conference, sponsored by Amnesty International and the Human Rights Program, focused on the social and historical issues surrounding immigration, labor rights, and globalization, as well as security concerns after September 11. The second part of the conference, "Legal Practice and Social Activism," will take place on February 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Pick 001.
